Germany prepares for new measures to stockpile canned dumplings
2025-9-11
According to a report by The Washington Post on the 7th, in response to possible conflicts and disasters, the German government plans to spend about 90 million euros to form a wartime food reserve system mainly composed of German style dumpling cans.
According to the German Mirror, German dumplings are a type of food made by wrapping vegetables or meat in a dough sheet and placing them together with thick soup in cans with easy to open lids. After simple processing, they can be consumed. Worried about the spillover of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, when Germany was preparing for the war, the Minister of Agriculture and Food, Alois Reiner, requested the establishment of a national food reserve warehouse. Canned German dumplings and lentil soup would be stored in large quantities as quick food for war preparedness to meet the emergency needs.
Rena pointed out that the production process of this fast food requires a certain amount of time, and starting production only when war breaks out or emergency situations occur will be too late. In addition to preparing for war, the German government believes that this reserve can also cope with various emergency situations such as natural disasters or nuclear accidents. According to Reiner's plan, the logistics and warehousing management tasks for Germany's grain reserves will be undertaken by large food chain stores.
The Washington Post emphasizes that the government's call for storing food and other supplies for war preparedness has a long tradition in Germany. But some critics also point out that after the official establishment of material reserve warehouses, it is necessary to regularly clean up and replace materials that are about to expire, which incurs high long-term operating costs. Critics also believe that the official call for reserve supplies is easily mistaken by the public as a "critical situation" and triggers unnecessary panic. According to reports, many countries have stocked up on daily necessities for wartime or emergency situations. For example, Switzerland has stocked up on coffee, while Norway recommends that people carry iodine tablets with them to deal with nuclear accidents and prepare board games to pass the time while seeking refuge. In the material reserve guide released by the German government, the public is advised to reserve basic medicines, candles, radios, and other supplies for 3 to 10 days.
