After the strike, Heineken reached an agreement with the union
2025-1-4
Heineken EOE beer has reached a new collective agreement with its trade unions following a strike at its Elgay breweries in Zoeterwoude and Den Bosch in the Netherlands. The outcome of negotiations between Heineken and the union will now be put to members for a vote.

The deal includes a collective pay increase of 4% from January 1, 2025 and a collective pay increase of 3% from January 1, 2026. In addition, agreements were reached on issues such as bereavement leave, working hours and extended maternity leave. Collective Labour agreements for the brewery, the commercial sector and Heineken International Group are all due to expire at the end of this year. These collective labor unions involve about 3,700 employees.

Earlier this month, the union said it was suspending its strike as talks with Heineken resumed. Heineken had previously complained that the strike was moving too quickly and said it wanted further talks. The strikes did not endanger the supply of beer.

Heineken said it was looking forward to feedback from the union on the ballot before Christmas. In a statement, Heineken said: "Both Heineken and the unions have taken into account the concerns of colleagues and the challenges Heineken faces in the Netherlands. With this outcome, everyone will benefit, Heineken will continue to be an attractive employer and together we will build a sustainable future for our great company."

Union negotiator Mirjam van Leussen said: "Union members have had to fight hard to get the aggravating measures Heineken wants to implement excluded. We did it. Now we're finally getting better pay. I'm sorry the strike took so long. We will now present this result to our members. If they agree, we will sign a new collective Labour agreement and new strike action will be called off."
