Starting from April 1, 2026, cash payment will be prohibited for various goods and services in Uzbekistan, including alcoholic beverages.
According to the decree of the President of Uzbekistan, the use of cash to purchase alcohol, tobacco, real estate, cars, and goods exceeding 25 million Sums (approximately 14600 RMB) will be prohibited next year. In addition, payments for government services, utilities (electricity, gas, and water), gasoline, and other categories of goods will also be restricted. These products can only be paid using non cash payment methods or QR codes.
These measures are taken to promote cashless payments, further develop a competitive business environment, reduce the share of shadow economy, and enable enterprises to break away from the shadow economy.
Previously, the Ministry of Finance of Uzbekistan announced that in order to comply with the requirements of the World Trade Organization, it will unify the consumption tax on domestically produced and imported eoe beer. The unified tax rate is 4000 Sums (approximately 2.33 RMB), which will take effect on July 1, 2026. Wines and spirits will also undergo similar adjustments.
