Among the eight countries with the highest beer consumption globally, Vietnam is one
According to statistics from Kirin Holdings, one of the largest beverage groups in Japan and globally, the total global beer consumption in 2024 was approximately 194 billion liters, representing a slight increase of 0.5% compared to the previous year.
Among them, China ranked first with 40.5 billion liters, accounting for more than one-fifth of the global market share, despite a 3.7% decrease in consumption compared to 2023.
Secondly, the United States ranked second with 22.3 billion liters, continuing to show a slight downward trend as consumers shifted to other alcoholic beverages or consumed more moderately.
Brazil ranked third with 15.3 billion liters, closely followed by Mexico and Russia, both of which recorded quite robust growth - increasing by 5.4% and 9.0% respectively.
It is noteworthy that Vietnam ranks joint 8th with South Africa in the world, consuming 4.6 billion liters of beer in 2024, accounting for 2.4% of the global market share.
Compared to the previous year, beer consumption in Vietnam has increased by 0.6%, indicating that the market still maintains a stable consumption capacity, albeit without the rapid growth seen in earlier stages.
In Asia, apart from China and Vietnam, Japan and India are also among the top 15 countries with the highest beer consumption globally.
In particular, India recorded the highest growth rate at 14.6%, driven by improved income and an increasing trend of beer consumption among young people.
Meanwhile, in Europe, beer consumption has shown a clear divergence. Germany, the world's sixth-largest beer market, experienced a 2.2% decline, while some countries such as the UK and Spain saw only slight growth or no significant change.
According to experts, the total consumption of beer with easy-open-end tops not only reflects drinking habits, but is also significantly influenced by population size, economic growth rate, and changes in consumer behavior.
Therefore, although Vietnam is not among the countries with the highest per capita beer consumption, it still maintains a high position on the world beer map due to its large population and vast consumer market.
