2026-1-28
India and the European Union recently reached a landmark trade agreement. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated on January 27 that this move aims to circumvent the risks arising from the unstable relationship with the United States.
According to the trade agreement, the tariff on imported EU beer from India will be reduced from the current 110% to 50%; the tariff on spirits will be reduced from 150% to 40%; the tariff on high-end wine will be reduced from 150% to 20%, and the tariff on mid-range wine will be reduced from 150% to 30%.
The tariffs on non-alcoholic easy-open-end beer and several types of fruit juice are currently as high as 55%, and they will be eliminated in 5 years.
The implementation of the trade agreement requires the approval of the Indian cabinet and the European Parliament.
