Who hasn't looked forward to the pleasant surprise of "one more bottle" when drinking in their childhood? However, some people have tried to make a huge profit by exploiting this. Recently, a beer manufacturer reported to the police that the prize redemption rings were abnormal. The police arrested the suspect, Chen, who purchased more than 37,000 blank caps to forge "one more bottle" labels. After redeeming the prizes across different districts for over half a year, he finally reaped what he sowed.
Chen, who is in his fifties and usually works on construction sites, said that he was financially strapped at the time and hoped to supplement his family's income, so he had an evil thought. In mid-2025, while drinking beer, Chen noticed that the prize information on the eoe of the can was relatively easy to imitate, and thus he had the idea of making fake pull-tabs to exchange for beer. He purchased over 37,500 blank aluminum cans through online shopping platforms in batches, had someone print false "one more drink" prize information on the blank cans, and then packaged the pull-tabs separately as prize redemption vouchers. To avoid arousing the suspicion of distributors, Chen deliberately chose to redeem at supermarkets on multiple streets in Wenzhou. He adopted a "small quantity, multiple times" approach, redeeming only 2 to 4 cases of beer per supermarket per visit, and changing locations after each redemption, using a "guerrilla" approach to reduce the risk of being discovered.
Using this method, Chen, who remains unnamed, continued to illegally redeem prizes for over half a year starting from mid-2025, and remained undetected on the spot. In February of this year, the beer manufacturer involved noticed that some of the prize-winning pull tabs had blurry font printing and even missing words, and the number of redeemed pull tabs was significantly higher than the probability of winning. They then called the police for help. "Could it be that someone is counterfeiting prize-winning pull tabs?" With this question in mind, the police officers from Yangyi Police Station of Lucheng District Branch of Wenzhou Public Security Bureau quickly launched an investigation. Through investigation and visits, they quickly identified the suspect, Chen, who frequently appeared at liquor retail stores and could always provide a large bag of prize-winning pull tabs. The police officers quickly arrested him and seized over 2,000 counterfeit prize-winning pull tabs at the scene.
Chen confessed that he felt that the crime was not worthwhile during the process. Not only did he not earn the expected large amount of money, but he also invested a lot of time and energy. However, considering that he had already invested money in purchasing materials and printing pull rings, he thought that he should first earn back his costs, so he continued to commit the crime despite the difficulties, until he was arrested by the police.
Currently, Chen has been subject to criminal compulsory measures by the public security authorities due to suspicion of fraud, and the case is under further investigation.
