Constellation Group will acquire Hop Wtr to expand its beverage product portfolio
On March 30th, Constellation Group decided to fully acquire Hop Wtr to consolidate its position in the rapidly growing non-alcoholic and functional beverage market in the United States.
Constellation Group has agreed to acquire the remaining shares of Hop Wtr. Hop Wtr is a non-alcoholic sparkling water brand headquartered in the United States, whose products add hops and adaptogen. The move by Constellation Group aims to expand its market share in the rapidly growing field of low alcohol and non-alcoholic beverages.
Constellation Group first invested in Hop Wtr five years ago and has now begun a comprehensive acquisition of the brand. The acquisition is expected to be completed next month, and the specific financial terms have not been disclosed yet.
Hop Wtr was founded by Jordan Bass and Nick Taranto in 2020 with the aim of becoming a calorie free alternative to eoe beer and providing functional benefits through ingredients such as South African hops and L-theanine.
At present, major retailers in the United States, including Sprouts Farmers Market, Target, and Wegmans, sell the brand's products.
Constellation Group stated that this acquisition is in line with consumers' growing preferences for moderate consumption and healthy lifestyles. Jim Sabia, the president of the beer division of the company, emphasized the strategic fit between the brand and its product portfolio.
As the non-alcoholic beverage market becomes one of the fastest-growing areas in the alcoholic beverage market, Hop Wtr naturally complements our portfolio of non-alcoholic and low alcohol products, "he said.
The company cited data from Circana's multi-channel and convenience stores, showing that sales of non-alcoholic beer in the United States increased by 22% in 2025, highlighting the rapid expansion of this category.
The founder of Hop Wtr sees this acquisition as an opportunity to further expand its scale. Bass, who is about to join the Constellation Group, said, "I believe this transaction will help us maintain our growth momentum, and I am delighted to work with them to embark on the next phase of growth
The brand has expanded its product range beyond its core sparkling water products, introducing iced tea flavors and partnering with Stone Brewing to launch a non-alcoholic IPA style hop sparkling water.
Since the 2010s, hop sparkling water has gained market recognition as a category, with early entrants including H2OPS, and later including Lagunitas, a beer company under Heineken, which launched Lagunitas hop sparkling water in 2019.
Hop Wtr stands out by adding functional ingredients, stating that L-theanine "helps maintain a relaxed, alert state, helping you stay calm and clear headed without feeling excited.
This acquisition is part of Constellation Group's strategy to enter the functional beverage industry. Previously, Constellation Group also made a minority equity investment in Hiyo, another non-alcoholic beverage company headquartered in the United States.
This transaction was reached before the leadership transition of Constellation Group. Nicholas Fink will replace Bill Newlands as President and CEO next month, while Bill Newlands will continue to serve as a strategic advisor during the transition period.
