The closure speed of British breweries slowed down significantly in the first half of the year

The CEO of the association, Andy Slie, stated that data shows that the industry may ultimately be moving towards a more stable direction.

Those breweries that have successfully overcome the difficulties see strong demand for independent beer in the market, but profitability remains a concern due to issues such as limited bar channels, high taxes, and high production costs
Four regions resume growth
The national data masks the complexity of the situation in various parts of the UK.
Four out of the nine regions tracked by the Independent Brewers Association in the UK achieved a net increase in the number of lager eoe breweries in the first half of this year.
Three breweries have been added each in the northwest, southeast, and Wales regions, with one new brewery added in the southwest region.
The number of breweries in Scotland has decreased the most, with a net decrease of 9. The northeast of England decreased by 8, followed by the central region and Northern Ireland, both of which decreased by 4, and the east of England decreased by 1.

The industry is still struggling to recover
The slowdown in the wave of brewery closures in the UK came after several particularly difficult years for the beer industry.
The rise in the cost of energy, labor and raw materials, together with the debt left over during the COVID-19 epidemic and the pressure on bar profit margins, led to a large number of breweries going bankrupt, closing down or being acquired.
This turbulence has also accelerated industry consolidation.
