In May of this year, three craft beers produced in Brazil won the gold medal (the highest honor) at one of the world's largest beer competitions, The World Beer Cup.
On May 5th, CNN Brazil reported that the 16th Beer World Cup was held in Indianapolis, USA on the 1st, with a total of 8375 beers from 49 countries and regions participating. After being evaluated by 265 judges, 334 beers stood out in 112 categories and received commendations. Among them, 277 Craft Beer, located in Foz do Igua ç u, Paran á, Brazil, has two award-winning products.
The Quadrupel 277 produced by the factory defeated 37 other competitors in the Belgian strong specialty beer category and won the gold medal. This dark and strong beer has been aged in wooden barrels for 12 months (previously used for aging sugarcane wine), with the addition of black sugar honey. It has a sweet aroma of candied fruits (such as dates and dried plums) and port wine on the palate.
Another beer from the factory, Canoa Quebrada, stood out among 45 "contestants" in the German Gus category. This is a light wheat beer with low bitterness, slightly sour and salty taste, and specially added cashews from Brazil to give it a unique flavor. Previously, this beer also won a silver medal in the Best Beer category at the 4th "Brazilian Beer Cup" organized by the Brazilian Craft Beer Association (Abracerva) in 2024.
At present, both award-winning beers can be tasted at the bar opened by 277 Craft Brewery in the center of Iguazu city.
In addition, Sim! The Melancia SOUR'n Salt produced by Cerveja Brewery won the gold medal in the specialty non-alcoholic beer category at the Beer World Cup. On that day, a total of 35 similar products participated in the award competition.
Sim! Cerveja is considered the first beer brand in Brazil to have its own production line and fully focus on producing non-alcoholic beer. The sour watermelon beer under its brand is brownish red and slightly cloudy. It is brewed from water, barley malt, hops, watermelon, rosea, and yeast, with a slightly sour taste and a slight salty taste. The alcohol content of this beer is 0.3%, which is lower than the legal limit of 0.5% for non-alcoholic beer in Brazil. The brewery introduces that its best pairing includes seafood, salad, or meat with more fat.
At present, the 350ml canned salted watermelon beer with an easy to pull lid is priced at 17.9 Brazilian reals on its official website, while the six can set is priced at 102 Brazilian reals.
