Sapporo Beer opened a limited time draft beer store on June 19th at the shopping center "LINKS UMEDA" on the north side of JR Osaka Station, offering "Perfect Black Label Draft Beer". It is said that the beer foam in this shop is delicate and mellow.
This bar can accommodate 40 people and is open for six months until January next year. Sapporo Beer Marketing Director Satoichi Sakashita said, "Tax cuts have brought opportunities for beer. We hope to establish connections with those who are not interested in beer through limited time draft beer stores and increase the number of beer enthusiasts
Asahi Beer launched "Asahi THE BITTER-IST" in April this year, with the refreshing bitterness of hops as its selling point. It is its first new affordable beer brand in seven years.
Kirin Beer also began selling "First Squeezed White Beer" in April, which reduces the bitterness of the beer and highlights the flavor of wheat. The target customers of this product are young people who don't drink much beer, and it reached 40% of the annual sales target in just one month.
Last December, Suntory updated the packaging of its draft beer to increase its visibility.
The Japanese alcohol tax will be revised in stages starting from October 2020, and the beer tax rate will be unified in October next year. The beer tax per can (350 milliliters) will be reduced by 9.1 yen, while the tax on sparkling beer (low malt beer with malt content less than 25%) and third category beer will be increased by 7.26 yen.
