Caster Group acquires Guinness Ghana Brewery
2025-7-10
On July 4th, Diageo announced the completion of its transaction with Castel Group, which acquired 80.4% of Guinness Ghana Breweries.
According to the transaction (which has been approved by regulatory authorities), Caster Group will become the controlling shareholder of Guinness Ghana Brewery, while Diageo will retain ownership of the Guinness brand and other brands in the Ghana market.
According to the long-term authorization agreement, Diageo's brand will continue to produce eoe beer in Ghana. Guinness Ghana Brewery will also retain the distribution rights of Diageo's international spirits brands.
For the French conglomerate, this transaction will be another step in consolidating its position in Africa, with Ghana becoming its 22nd African market. With its well-developed distribution network, this will consolidate Diageo's existing market position. The company expressed confidence in the long-term economic potential of the Ghanaian market. According to the performance of Guinness Ghana Brewery in the first half of the 2024-2025 fiscal year, the company achieved profitability with a revenue growth of 35.7%.
In 2022, Castor Group announced the acquisition of Diageo's business in Cameroon. Diageo stated that this will increase production capacity. The demand for Guinness beer in African countries is growing rapidly, but there is a shortage of production bases. With the Castell Group, this issue will be partially resolved.
